Navigating the Maze of Alzheimer’s
“Navigating the Maze of Alzheimer’s” presented by Bill Smutny, Community Advocate and Former Caregiver. This recording was part of MemoryCare’s Spring 2020 Educational Event series, recorded as a live online broadcast on May 7, 2020.
In this presentation, Bill is openly sharing his experiences, with all the joys, sorrows, mistakes and successes, to help light the way for others who have found themselves Living in the Maze of Alzheimer’s. A PDF of the slides is available in the handouts tab.
Bill Smutny has a MS degree in physiology from WVU and in the course of his professional life has served as VP of Sales and Marketing for several international biotech companies. However, Bill feels the most challenging role of his career was to take on the responsibility of carepartner for his beautiful wife Laura who was diagnosed with younger-onset Alzheimer’s at the age of 61. As residents of Hendersonville, Bill and Laura endeavored to help others by starting weekly support groups to help couples where one is living with a diagnosis of dementia or MCI. Even after Laura’s passing last year, Bill continues to be active in the dementia community by writing, facilitating their support groups, co hosting a Memory Lane Café and public speaking.
